Description
Catalyzes the NADP(+)-dependent oxidation of D-xylose. Is able to use both NADP(+) and NAD(+); however, the enzyme shows a very strong preference for NADP(+). Is likely involved in the first step of the oxidative D-xylose degradation pathway.
