yjiP

Gene
yjiP
Protein
Putative inactive recombination-promoting nuclease-like protein YjiP
Organism
Escherichia coli (strain K12)
Length
103 amino acids
Function
This pseudogene is the N-terminal fragment of low activity DNA endonuclease RpnD which probably yields 3'-hydroxyl ends (By similarity). The intact protein can be seen in this entry (AC B7NGZ6). Expression of the repaired protein increases the frequency of recA-independent recombination, but also decreases viability probably via DNA damage; in a RecA strain expression has no effect on viability but does induce the SOS repair response (PubMed:26162088, PubMed:26618540). May play a role in horizontal gene transfer (PubMed:26162088, PubMed:26618540, PubMed:28096446).
Similarity
Belongs to the Rpn/YhgA-like nuclease family.
