Protein
Tetrathionate reductase subunit B
Organism
Salmonella typhimurium (strain LT2 / SGSC1412 / ATCC 700720)
Function
Part of a membrane-bound tetrathionate reductase that catalyzes the reduction of tetrathionate to thiosulfate. TtrB is probably involved in transfer of electrons from TtrC to TtrA. During mice infection, the ability to use tetrathionate as an electron acceptor is a growth advantage for S.typhimurium over the competing microbiota in the lumen of the inflamed gut.
