Initial enzyme in the biosynthesis of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate proteoglycans in fibroblasts and chondrocytes. Required for vulval morphogenesis and zygotic cytokinesis, suggesting that glycosaminoglycans play a central role in vulval morphogenesis.
