Protein
Small, acid-soluble spore protein 2
Organism
Bacillus cereus (strain ATCC 14579 / DSM 31 / JCM 2152 / NBRC 15305 / NCIMB 9373 / NRRL B-3711)
Function
SASP are bound to spore DNA. They are double-stranded DNA-binding proteins that cause DNA to change to an a-like conformation. They protect the DNA backbone from chemical and enzymatic cleavage and are thus involved in dormant spore's high resistance to UV light (By similarity).
Similarity
Belongs to the alpha/beta-type SASP family.
