hda-1

Gene
hda-1
Protein
Histone deacetylase 1
Organism
Caenorhabditis elegans
Length
461 amino acids
Function
Responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). Histone deacetylation gives a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Histone deacetylases act via the formation of large multiprotein complexes. Involved in the endoderm determination possibly by repressing end-1 expression. Also involved in vulval development, possibly by repressing lag-2 expression. In association with akir-1, plays a role in regulating the transcription of antimicrobial peptide genes in response to fungal infection (PubMed:30036395).
Similarity
Belongs to the histone deacetylase family. HD type 1 subfamily.
Mass
52.138 kDa
