Protein
Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1
Organism
Ashbya gossypii (strain ATCC 10895 / CBS 109.51 / FGSC 9923 / NRRL Y-1056)
Function
Catalyzes the terminal and only committed step in triacylglycerol synthesis by using diacylglycerol and fatty acyl CoA as substrates. Required for storage lipid synthesis. May be involved in lipid particle synthesis from the endoplasmic reticulum and ergosterol biosynthesis. Also has monoacylglycerol acyltransferase (MGAT) activity, catalyzing the acyl-CoA-dependent esterification of monoacylglycerol to diacylglycerol (By similarity).
Similarity
Belongs to the diacylglycerol acyltransferase family.
