ddrA

Gene
ddrA
Protein
Diol dehydratase-reactivating factor alpha subunit
Organism
Klebsiella oxytoca (strain ATCC 8724 / DSM 4798 / JCM 20051 / NBRC 3318 / NRRL B-199 / KCTC 1686)
Length
610 amino acids
Function
Alpha subunit of the diol dehydratase-reactivating factor (DDR) or DD reactivase. Contains the adenosine nucleotide binding site. DDR acts as a chaperone, reactivates the inactivated diol dehydratase holoenzyme in the presence of ATP, magnesium and free adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl) by mediating the exchange of the tightly bound damaged cofactor AdoCbl for a free intact one. DDR has weak ATPase activity.

Gene

Protein
Single-stranded DNA-binding protein DdrA
Organism
Deinococcus radiodurans (strain ATCC 13939 / DSM 20539 / JCM 16871 / LMG 4051 / NBRC 15346 / NCIMB 9279 / R1 / VKM B-1422)
Length
208 amino acids
Function
ssDNA-binding protein that contributes to the ionizing radiation resistance of D.radiodurans. Plays a role in DNA repair and genome reconstitution, in a RecA-independent process, since DdrA is essential for recovery from severe genomic fragmentation as a result of exposure to severe levels of ionizing radiation in an environment lacking nutrients. In vitro, binds to the 3'-ends of single-stranded DNA, protecting them from nuclease degradation. Thus, DdrA is part of a DNA end-protection system that helps to preserve genome integrity following irradiation or desiccation. Does not display DNA strand annealing activity, unlike eukaryotic Rad52 protein homologs.
Similarity
Belongs to the RAD52 family.

Protein
Single-stranded DNA-binding protein DdrA
Organism
Deinococcus deserti (strain VCD115 / DSM 17065 / LMG 22923)
Length
201 amino acids
Function
ssDNA-binding protein that contributes to the ionizing radiation resistance of D.deserti. Plays a role in DNA repair and genome reconstitution, in a RecA-independent process, since DdrA is essential for recovery from severe genomic fragmentation as a result of exposure to severe levels of ionizing radiation in an environment lacking nutrients (Probable). In vitro, binds to the 3'-ends of single-stranded DNA, and probably protects them from nuclease degradation. Thus, DdrA is part of a DNA end-protection system that helps to preserve genome integrity following irradiation or desiccation.
Similarity
Belongs to the RAD52 family.
