Protein
Ornithine carbamoyltransferase 2, anabolic
Organism
Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. phaseolicola
Function
Plays an important role in the survival and pathogenicity of P.syringae (PubMed:1522066). Phaseolotoxin is a virulence factor that inhibits the catalysis of the host OTCase (PubMed:1522066, PubMed:16453811). Phaseolotoxin-producing bacteria do not suffer autointoxication because they possess the anabolic OTCase ArgK which can function even in the presence of phaseolotoxin (PubMed:1522066, PubMed:3592910, PubMed:16453811). Reversibly catalyzes the transfer of the carbamoyl group from carbamoyl phosphate (CP) to the N(epsilon) atom of ornithine (ORN) to produce L-citrulline, which is a substrate for argininosuccinate synthetase, the enzyme involved in the final step in arginine biosynthesis (PubMed:3592910).
Similarity
Belongs to the ATCase/OTCase family.
