Effector that suppresses plant defense responses during the early stages of pathogen infection. Suppresses cell death induced by effectors and PAMPs in plant hosts (PubMed:21653195, PubMed:27256489). Avh262 stabilizes endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-luminal binding immunoglobulin proteins (BiPs), which act as negative regulators of plant resistance to Phytophthora. By stabilizing BiPs, Avh262 suppresses ER stress-triggered cell death and facilitates Phytophthora infection (PubMed:27256489).
