Function
Sigma factors are initiation factors that promote the attachment of RNA polymerase to specific initiation sites and are then released. A non-essential principal sigma factor that responds to cell envelope stress and hypoxia. Controls a regulon of about 40 genes, with another 100 genes expression being altered during SDS stress and about 50 gene being altered during diamide (oxidative) stress.
