Function
Component of the cohesin complex, a complex required for the cohesion of sister chromatids after DNA replication (PubMed:14499625, PubMed:12808038, PubMed:14560015, PubMed:12827206). The cohesin complex apparently forms a large proteinaceous ring within which sister chromatids can be trapped (By similarity). At anaphase, the scc-1 subunit of the complex is cleaved and dissociates from chromatin, allowing sister chromatids to segregate (By similarity). The cohesin complex may also play a role in spindle pole assembly during mitosis (By similarity). Has a role in stabilization of homologous chromosome associations during meiotic synapsis (PubMed:12827206). Involved in early meitoic double-stranded break (DSB) processing, and recruitment of the 9-1-1 cell cycle checkpoint complex to damage sites (PubMed:21856158).
