NEC1

Gene
NEC1
Protein
Highly reducing polyketide synthase NEC1
Organism
Magnaporthe oryzae (strain 70-15 / ATCC MYA-4617 / FGSC 8958)
Length
2758 amino acids
Function
Highly reducing polyketide synthase; part of the gene cluster that mediates the biosynthesis of nectriapyrone and its analogs phomopyrone A, acropyrone and zaepyrone (PubMed:30443971). The nectriapyrone biosynthetic gene cluster consists of two genes, the highly reducing polyketide synthase NEC1 that produces a demethylated analog of nectriapyrone from one unit of acetyl-CoA and one unit of malonyl-CoA; and the O-methyltransferase NEC2 that further methylates the NEC1 product to yield nectriapyrone (PubMed:30443971). Nectriapyrone is further hydrolyzed to nectriapyrone D, also known as gulypyrone B, by an unidentified hydrolase localized outside the nectriapyrone cluster (PubMed:30443971).

Gene
NEC1
Protein
Nuclear egress protein 1
Organism
Human cytomegalovirus (strain AD169)
Length
376 amino acids
Function
Plays an essential role in virion nuclear egress, the first step of virion release from infected cell. Within the host nucleus, NEC1 interacts with the newly formed capsid through the vertexes and directs it to the inner nuclear membrane by associating with NEC2. Induces the budding of the capsid at the inner nuclear membrane as well as its envelopment into the perinuclear space. There, the NEC1/NEC2 complex promotes the fusion of the enveloped capsid with the outer nuclear membrane and the subsequent release of the viral capsid into the cytoplasm where it will reach the secondary budding sites in the host Golgi or trans-Golgi network.
Similarity
Belongs to the herpesviridae NEC1 protein family.
