DAAT

Gene
DAAT
Protein
D-amino-acid transaminase, chloroplastic
Organism
Arabidopsis thaliana
Length
373 amino acids
Function
Amino acid aminotransferase showing activity for D-Asp and D-Ala as amino donors with 2-oxoglutarate as an amino acceptor. Can also use D-Met, D-Tyr, D-Phe, D-Gln, D-Trp and D-Asn as substrates, but no activity with L-Asp, L-Ala, L-Leu, L-Ile or L-Val. Catalyzes also the reverse reaction where an amino group is transferred from D-Glu to pyruvate or oxaloacetate to produce D-Ala or D-Asp, respectively. Also involved in folate biosynthesis, acting as an aminodeoxychorismate lyase converting 4-amino-4-deoxychorismate (ADC) to p-aminobenzoate (PABA)(PubMed:15500462).
Similarity
Belongs to the class-IV pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase family.
